Criminal Cases in the Wahkiakum County Courts
Pacific/Wahkiakum Superior Court has general jurisdiction and hears felony criminal matters. The Wahkiakum County Clerk permanently maintains those files. Wahkiakum County District Court handles misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, traffic cases, fish and wildlife citations, probation, and Cathlamet municipal matters. The official directory sends Cathlamet Municipal Court users to District Court rather than to a separate city docket. Juvenile cases are regionally shared and restricted, with the juvenile office listed in South Bend.
A Washington Superior Court criminal number commonly encodes the filing year, case-type code, sequence, and check digit. Copy the full number exactly. A number from District Court may use a different format, so court level is part of the identity check. The official Wahkiakum court directory identifies each local court and its role.
The directory view helps prevent a request for a felony judgment from going to the District Court counter, or a misdemeanor copy request from going to the Superior Court Clerk.
Choose the Wahkiakum County Court
The charge level points to the correct case record. A felony information, felony plea, or felony sentencing order belongs in Superior Court. A misdemeanor or gross misdemeanor complaint ordinarily belongs in District Court. The same District Court also processes charges issued by the Washington State Patrol, Wahkiakum County Sheriff's Office, county prosecutor, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Department of Natural Resources.
The Wahkiakum District Court service page confirms its limited-jurisdiction criminal work and its Cathlamet municipal role.
This split is especially useful when a citation names a state agency but the resulting prosecution is filed in the local District Court.
Quick distinction: The arresting agency's initial charge may change after prosecutor review. Use the court file for the charge that was filed and its final disposition.
How to Search Case Records
The free Washington Courts Case Search is the first locator for Wahkiakum County criminal cases. It is an index, not the complete pleading set or a certified result. Search a known case number when possible. For a name search, use the legal spelling and try prior names or reasonable spelling variants separately. A similar name is not proof that the record belongs to the same person.
- Accept the Case Search terms and choose Superior Courts for felonies or District and Municipal Courts for lower-level criminal matters.
- Select name, case-number, or business-name search. Name and case number are the useful choices for most criminal files.
- Choose Wahkiakum County Superior Court or Wahkiakum District Court instead of leaving the search at a broad statewide scope.
- Open the matching index result and note the full case number, court, filing details, and docket route.
- Use Odyssey for public Superior Court case data, then request the needed document from the clerk in plain or certified form.

Wahkiakum Odyssey Case Limits
Wahkiakum's Odyssey Portal provides an additional route for Superior Court case information. Anonymous users may see public case headers, parties, events, hearings, status, and configured financial or disposition data. They cannot see restricted cases or documents. Registration does not itself turn confidential material into a public record, and document access depends on the user's role and county controls.
The Wahkiakum Odyssey dashboard is specific to the county's Superior Court.
When an anonymous result lists a docket event but offers no image of the filing, the absence reflects the portal's access tier. It does not establish that the clerk lacks the document.
JIS-Link is another statewide court-information route, but it is a paid, display-only subscription service priced at $0.145 per command. Most occasional users can locate the case through the free index and obtain the source document from the clerk.
What the Case File Shows
A Wahkiakum County criminal court file follows one prosecution. It differs from an arrest report, a jail booking, and the statewide WATCH response. The docket is the chronological list of filings, orders, and hearings. The complaint or information states the prosecutor-filed accusation, which may differ from the charge shown at booking. Minutes, motions, pleas, judgment, and sentencing papers show how each count moved.
| Case Number & Court | Identifies the court level, file, case type, and local proceeding. |
|---|---|
| Charging Document | Shows each prosecutor-filed count, offense description, statute, level, and alleged date. |
| Docket Entries | List filings, notices, minutes, motions, orders, warrants, and other case events in date order. |
| Hearing Dates | Identify arraignment, omnibus or pretrial proceedings, plea, trial, sentencing, and the judicial officer when public. |
| Disposition & Judgment | Show whether a count ended in conviction, dismissal, acquittal, or another recorded result. |
| Sentence & Conditions | May show custody, probation or community custody, restitution, costs, and other legal financial obligations. |
A dismissal means the charge ended without conviction under the order. An acquittal is a not-guilty result at trial. Neither word should be replaced with the other.
Wahkiakum Court Copy Channels
After locating a Superior Court case, submit a focused document request with the case number, full party names, exact document title, and filing date or a close estimate. State whether the copy must be certified and choose electronic delivery, mail, or pickup when offered. The Clerk requires documents to be purchased in full. Older or archived matters should go directly to the clerk rather than being treated as absent because a portal search failed.
The Superior Court document request page gives the current workflow and price schedule.
As of June 11, 2026, Superior Court noncertified copies cost $0.50 per page. Certified copies cost $5 for the first page and $1 for each added page. A hearing-audio copy costs $25, and mail adds postage and handling. District Court charges $0.25 per regular page, $5 for the first certified page plus $1 for each later page, and $10 for a CD.
Stages of a Criminal Case
A case may begin with an arrest or citation, followed by a prompt appearance and release decision. The prosecutor then reviews the referral and selects the charge, if any. Arraignment states the filed charge and records a plea. Discovery, an omnibus hearing, and pretrial motions prepare the case for a negotiated plea or trial. The court then records the result and, after conviction, the sentence. Appeals and post-judgment motions create later entries.
Case flow: Charges Filed › Arraignment › Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing
The Pacific/Wahkiakum Superior Court page publishes local docket information and court materials.
The local criminal calendar usually meets twice monthly, so a recent booking may not yet display a scheduled court event. Confirm the date with the clerk instead of predicting it from the usual cadence.
Wahkiakum Criminal Docket Timing
Superior Court's criminal docket is normally twice monthly at 9:30 a.m. District Court's criminal docket is normally twice monthly at 9:00 a.m. Those published patterns are planning aids, not guarantees for a particular case. A hearing can be moved, added, or removed. Call the correct clerk and use the current docket entry before traveling.
The smaller calendar also explains an apparent gap between a jail record and a court result. Booking charges describe the original basis for detention. Prosecutor review comes next. The filed information or complaint may change the count, wording, or severity, and a disposition can take much longer. Readers tracing that earlier phase can compare the official booking channels on the Wahkiakum County arrest history page.
Note: “Pending” means no final disposition is recorded yet; it does not state how the charge will end.
Wahkiakum NextRequest Court Documents
NextRequest is the county's request and delivery route for Superior Court documents, not a replacement for the state case index. Begin with Case Search or Odyssey to capture the correct number. Then ask for named filings, such as the information, judgment and sentence, dismissal order, or hearing audio. A narrow request reduces uncertainty and lets the Clerk identify the correct file and cost.
The Wahkiakum County NextRequest portal provides the submission channel.
A case number alone may not reveal which document answers the question. The charging paper identifies filed counts, the docket shows sequence, and the judgment or dismissal order establishes the recorded outcome.
District Court does not use this Superior Court document workflow for its own file copies. Contact District Court by counter, phone, mail, or fax using its published channels and fees.
Access & Restrictions
Washington General Rule 31 governs public access to court case records. It directs courts to support access while protecting privacy and avoiding undue burden. Court records are not agency records under the Washington Public Records Act, so a general county records request is not always the right path for a pleading or judgment.
Sealed files, juvenile matters, confidential victim or medical information, full dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and financial account data can be restricted or redacted. A public portal view may also show less than the clerk-held file. If a known Wahkiakum County criminal case does not appear, confirm the court level, spelling, number, and archive status with the clerk. Ask whether the file is restricted rather than assuming it never existed.
